The Firm
A small practice built on steady work.
booncounara was founded in Singapore with one purpose: to provide families with considered legal counsel during periods of difficulty, without adding unnecessary pressure to an already strained situation.

How the firm came to be
booncounara was established in Singapore after its principal saw, over many years of practice, that family legal matters are often handled in ways that increase rather than reduce the distress of those involved. The pace is too fast. The advice comes in fragments. The client is rarely sure what is happening or what will be asked of them next.
The firm was set up to work differently. Matters are taken one at a time. Consultations are unhurried. Written summaries follow each significant meeting. Fees are stated plainly and do not change without notice. The objective is always to help the family find a workable arrangement — not to extend the proceedings.
The office is at Peninsula Plaza in the city centre, a familiar and settled address. Clients are seen by appointment. The firm does not advertise widely or take on more matters than it can handle well. It is a small practice, and it intends to remain one.

Expertise & Context
Family Law in Singapore
Family proceedings in Singapore are governed by the Women's Charter and the Family Justice Act, with matters heard in the Family Justice Courts. The court system in Singapore has in recent years developed a range of pathways — including judge-led mediation and collaborative family practice — that allow parties to resolve their differences without a full contested hearing in many cases.
booncounara works across this range of pathways. For clients who have not yet taken legal advice, the Drawing-Room Sitting offers a settled starting point. For those already in proceedings, the firm can advise on the options available and, where appropriate, represent the client through to conclusion.
The firm's approach to custody and access matters is shaped by its understanding that arrangements that both parties can accept tend to serve children better over time than those imposed by a court. This is not always achievable, but it is always the starting point.
