In their own words

"I came to the Drawing-Room Sitting not knowing what to expect. By the end of it, I understood my situation far better than I had before. The written summary they sent afterwards was genuinely useful — I referred back to it several times."

"The mediation process was handled with a level of care I had not anticipated. Both my former husband and I left feeling that the arrangement we'd reached was one we'd actually chosen, rather than one handed down to us. That made a difference."

"There were points during the proceedings when things were slow — the courts move at their own pace — but Henry kept me informed throughout. I always knew where we were. That consistency was more valuable than I'd expected."

"I had been to another firm before coming to booncounara. The difference in how the matter was handled was noticeable. Here, I felt the pace of things was set with my situation in mind, not just the firm's schedule."

"I appreciated that the fee was stated clearly before anything else. There was no guessing about what the eventual bill might look like. For someone already dealing with a difficult family situation, that certainty was genuinely reassuring."

"The children's arrangements were the most important part of our matter, and I felt that the firm understood this. The advice was practical, and I did not feel pushed toward positions that looked strong on paper but would have been difficult to live with."

How the firm has helped

A client came to the firm uncertain whether to initiate divorce proceedings. Her husband had left the matrimonial home several months earlier. She had two school-age children and was concerned about the arrangements for custody and access.

The firm conducted a Drawing-Room Sitting to assess her position and explain the available options. Following this, she engaged the firm for the Patient Course in Family Proceedings. Mediation was also attempted and produced an agreed custody arrangement.

The divorce was concluded within seven months. The custody arrangement, reached through mediation, remained in place without further legal intervention eighteen months later. The client described the process as "less difficult than I had feared."

"The firm helped me understand what was possible before I decided what I actually wanted. That made all the difference."

— Client, Family Proceedings & Mediation, March 2025

A client engaged the firm after receiving divorce papers from his wife's solicitors. He was not opposed to the divorce but wanted proper advice on the division of matrimonial assets before agreeing to anything.

The firm advised on the client's entitlements under Singapore law, reviewed the proposed settlement, and negotiated a revised arrangement on his behalf. Court proceedings were not ultimately required; the matter was resolved by agreement.

An agreed order was made by the Family Justice Courts within five months. The client received a more equitable share of the matrimonial assets than he had been offered in the initial proposal. The process cost less than a contested hearing would have.

"I knew very little about what I was entitled to. Having someone explain it plainly and then act on it was a relief."

— Client, Family Proceedings, January 2025

Two parties in a separation — referred by their respective previous lawyers — sought mediation to resolve a dispute over access arrangements for their young child, without returning to court proceedings.

booncounara's mediation associate conducted a series of mediation sessions. A draft access schedule was produced and adjusted through discussion. Legal advice was available to each party independently during the process.

An agreed access schedule was reached without further court proceedings. Both parties found the process more manageable than a contested hearing would have been. The arrangement has been in place for over a year without significant dispute.

"We were both tired of fighting. Mediation gave us a way to reach something workable without having to go back to court."
